Set up Guardian
in about ten minutes

Two phones, one short code, a single Android permission. Here's every screen you'll meet along the way — from pairing to your first shared screen-time report.

Every step, every screen

Numbered screenshot slots below mark where real captures will go once the app is live on Google Play.

01

Install on both phones & choose roles

Rupix Guardian is one app with two clearly separated experiences. Install it on your phone and your child's. When you open it, it asks "Who is using this device?" — choose Parent Device on yours and Child Device on theirs. The role sticks to that physical phone, so a parent's session can never end up driving the child's app (or vice versa).

Parent: sign in & generate the pairing code

On your phone, sign in with your Google account or email. On the dashboard, tap to create a pairing code. You'll get an 8-character code with a live countdown — it expires after 10 minutes and can be redeemed only once. Codes are stored hashed on our servers, so even we never see the code you're holding.

Child: disclosure first, then their own sign-in

On the child's phone, a full-screen disclosure explains in plain language what Guardian does before anything is set up: it reads daily app-usage time, syncs it to the linked parent account, and keeps a visible supervision notification. This screen can't be skipped. Your child then signs in with their OWN account — not yours. Using a parent's account as a child device is rejected by the server, which keeps both roles cleanly separated.

Child: enter the 8-character code

Type the code shown on your dashboard. Each code is single-use, and repeated wrong guesses are rate-limited by the server before codes are even checked. Once paired, the two phones are linked and the child's device token is stored securely on-device.

Grant 'Usage access' on the child phone

This is the one Android permission Guardian needs, and Android makes it a manual, revocable setting rather than a popup. In the app you'll see a 'Usage Access Needed' card — tapping 'Grant Usage Access' opens Android Settings directly at the right list ('Usage access' / 'App usage access'). Find Rupix Guardian, tap it, and turn the switch on. When you return to the app it detects the change automatically. The permission can be revoked here at any time, and the parent dashboard will honestly show if that happens.

Parent: your dashboard comes alive

Within moments of the child opening the app, your dashboard shows today's total screen time, a category breakdown, and the day's top apps. Switch between 7, 14 and 30-day trends, see the busiest hour, and flip between paired devices with status dots (active, idle, offline). If a device hasn't checked in for over a day — or has switched Usage Access off — a clear banner tells you instead of guessing.

Child: what they see every day

Your child gets their own 'My Screen Time' dashboard — the same totals, categories and top apps you see, so there are no hidden numbers on either side. An ongoing notification reads 'Rupix Guardian is active — this device is supervised by <your email>', and it stays visible while supervision runs. If the phone is offline, reports queue locally and sync later; the app says so plainly instead of failing silently.

Unpairing, whenever you need it

From your dashboard you can unpair any device in one explicit action. Reports from that phone stop immediately. There are no hidden gestures or disguised switches — and if you ever want to reconnect, you simply generate a fresh code and walk through these steps again.

Openness is the feature

A visible notification, a child-side dashboard, hashed one-time codes and an unpair button that actually works — Guardian is designed so both sides always know exactly what's happening.

  • One-time, hashed pairing codes
  • Child uses their own account
  • Nothing collected beyond screen time
  • Unpair anytime
